Sports Day, or as I affectionately called it, Mud Day!

Earlier in the week, prior to Sports Day, the weather was very much raining and just messy.  About 2 days before the event, the weather turned nice and we were all (mostly us parents) hoping the grass and field would dry out before the Friday event.  It was nice all day Thursday even through the evening hours.  Then as I was tucking in the girls that night, Kiery was in a goofy mood and she prayed for rain for the Sports Day.  She must have a more direct line to God then I do at times.  We woke Friday morning to pouring down rain.  Kiery thought she was so funny…..  As we went out the door, we grabbed umbrellas, jackets and prepared ourselves for the mud!!!!

The Sports Day is a lot like Track and Field Day @ Christian Heritage School.  They have relay races, obstacle courses, sack races, long jump etc., so a fun day of OUTSIDE play.  The rain was a warm rain and more drizzly as the morning wore on.  Ruth had signed up to help guide the girls in Kiery’s class around thinking (1st mistake) that they wouldn’t have a BRAND new person all by herself guiding 6 yr. olds on fields that she didn’t know the name of let alone how the whole day was going to work.  Well yes they put me by myself, after I dealt with the shock of that I looked at the map and Chad came over to at least get us to the first event.  All was well.

We all had fun.  Remember EVERYTHING is a hill in Ukarumpa, add that to soppy wet grass and then add to that about a 100 kids walking up and down the hills to get to the different events.  Yes, lots of slipping and sliding was going on.  And yes, as many of you know Ruth well, she did fall.  But nothing was hurt, just more clothes that had to be scrubbed by hand.   We all had fun!!!  We got to know kids in each of the girl’s classes better and their parents. Anna and Kiery both had several ribbons each.  But the most important was the fun they had and the memories that were made.   After the day was over, you could hear all the showers going in the whole center to get all the mud cleaned off.  Many of us, did the first layer of mud  outside with the hose.

The Sports  Day for the secondary campus is in the Spring so we shall see how muddy that event is…
Looking forward to more memories made and to be shared.

  2. OH goodness! Thank goodness for maps! Sounds like Ruth should have earned a ribbon too... Proud of you guys for jumping in and embracing this adventure with both arms wide open - (congratulations on your ribbons girls!) Glad everyone is ok and had a great time.

You know, people pay a lot of money for those mud baths... (I know, I know, you can save the swat for later - LOL!) Love you guys!
